Do you want to drive large rigid trucks, coaches or articulated buses?
Licence Information
You may drive any rigid vehicle with 3 or more axles and tow a trailer with a GVM up to 9 tonnes (and within GCM limits). Also includes an articulated bus.
Pre-requisites Participants must have held a class car for 2 years or LR/MR for 1 year, have no outstanding business with Transport SA (i.e. unpaid parking fines or speeding tickets) and have no medical conditions that would prevent the issue of commercial driver's licence.
Recommended Number of Lessons Allan Miller Driving School recommends drivers upgrading to the HR licence receive 18 to 21 hours of instruction (12 to 15 hours in the HR Auto Shift). Instruction is given in 3 hour time blocks to avoid driver fatigue. Required hours quoted are an average only - any additional hours required are discussed with individuals on a case by case basis.

Course Assessment Allan Miller recommends the Competency Based Training and Assessment (CBT&A) approach for drivers seeking heavy vehicle driver training. Competency Based Training is a system where assessment takes place throughout the training program, and allows for re-training and re-assessment of errors. VORT (Vehicle On Road Test) is also available, and is a single pass/fail assessment at the end of the training program.
Locations available We can provide instruction from Lonsdale or Cavan (by arrangement).
Lesson prices Class HR training is $110 per hour. A $40 administration fee is charged on your final CBT assessment on top of the lesson charge. A HR VORT (Auto Shift only) costs $210. Prices current as at 10th January 2012.
